This article explains how to limit the number of sessions a student can enroll in using session labels, and how the limit behaves during registration.

What Is a Session Registration Limit?
A session registration limit controls how many sessions a student can enroll in within a group of sessions that share the same session label (a tag used to categorize sessions, such as "Summer Camp" or "After School Clubs"). Once a student reaches the limit for a label, parents cannot enroll, join the waitlist, or add sessions to the cart for that student. Staff, however, will receive a warning that the limit has been reached and can choose to override it.
This feature is useful when:
- Families should choose from a set number of available programs or sessions during registration (e.g., "choose 2 of 5 electives")
- A district wants to prevent over-enrollment across a group of sessions.
How It Works
Capabilities
- What you can set: A maximum number of enrollments or waitlist spots per session label
- When it happens: The limit applies when adding a session to the cart—students and families are unable to proceed when the limit is reached
- Where it applies: The limit applies to all sessions sharing the same label
Application and Usage
- Waitlists: Waitlist spots count toward the limit—a student on a waitlist for a session occupies a slot, which may prevent enrollment or joining a waitlist in another session with the same label
- Shopping Carts: Items in the registration cart count toward the limit—adding a session to the cart reserves a slot before checkout is complete
- Consistent system rules: Registration limits are applied automatically to all students registering for sessions with that label.
How to Set a Registration Limit
- Go to your District Dashboard > Basic setup > Session labels
- Find the session label you want to apply a limit to
- Click “✎ Edit” for the session
- Enter the maximum number of sessions a student can enroll in under this label
- Click Save
💡 Note: The limit applies to all sessions currently using this label. Changes take effect immediately for new registrations. Staff members initiating an enrollment will receive a warning if a limit is reached but possess the ability to bypass it.
What Families and Staff See During Registration
- For Parents/Families: Parents do not get an override option; they are strictly subject to the limit. When a student has reached the limit for a session label, they are blocked from proceeding, adding more sessions to the cart, or joining additional waitlists under that label.
- For District Staff: When a staff member attempts to register a student who has reached the limit, a warning message will appear indicating the session limit has been reached, but staff can choose to override it and continue with the enrollment anyways.
- Tracking Limits: Staff can view which sessions are contributing to a student's limit by comparing session enrollments on the Browse student and parent page and the Session label page
FAQs
Q: Does a waitlist spot count toward the limit?
A: Yes. If a student is on a waitlist for a session, that spot counts toward their registration limit for that session label.
Q: Does adding a session to the cart count toward the limit?
A: Yes. Sessions added to the cart are counted toward the limit until checkout is completed or the item is removed.
Q: Can a student be manually enrolled if they've hit the limit?
A: Yes, if performed by staff. While families are blocked, staff will receive a warning notification stating the limit has been reached, which they can choose to override to complete the enrollment anyway.
Q: What happens if I change the limit after students are already enrolled?
A: Existing enrollments are not affected. The new limit applies to future enrollments and waitlists only.
Q: Can sessions have multiple labels with multiple limits? Which limit takes priority?
A: Yes, our system counts an enrollment in every group of labeled sessions. The system looks at the limits for all labels on the session and enforces them.
Tips
- If students are unexpectedly hitting the limit, check whether they have active waitlist spots or sessions in their carts—these count toward the total.
- If you're running a session with both a registration limit and a seat capacity, these are separate controls. A student can be blocked by the registration limit even if seats are still available.
